Today, software developer mrc announces the release of new developer tools within the m-Power Development Platform. m-Power is a web application development platform that businesses use across their organizations to create web applications such as report-writing, Business Intelligence, executive dashboards, e-commerce, customer portals, and mobile applications to name a few.

This release enhances the m-Power Development Platform with features aimed at giving m-Power developers greater insight into their applications. These new enhancements improve m-Power in a few important ways:

  • Application relationship diagrams shows developers how applications work together
m-Power takes a building block approach to development, creating reusable applications that work together with other applications. This approach lets m-Power developers create complex applications quickly, as they can reuse application blocks in many places. But, these application relationships can be difficult to manage as they increase.

To help developers better understand how all of their applications work together, this update brings application relationship diagrams to m-Power. Developers can now view and interact with a visual representation of their application connections. This feature brings greater insight into applications and further simplifies the maintenance process.

  • Enhanced application auditing features help developers understand how an application has changed
Since m-Power has no per-user or per-developer fees, a company may have as many (or as few) developers as they wish. This means that multiple developers might alter a single application, which can lead to confusion if developers don't update the changelog.

This update addresses the issue with enhanced application auditing features. Now, m-Power automatically tracks changes to an application, which developer made the change, and when the application was last run. This feature improves application visibility and simplifies maintenance for clients with multiple m-Power developers.

  • BLOB support brings binary fields to m-Power applications
This update brings Binary Large Objects (BLOB) support to m-Power. BLOBs are typically images, audio, video, multimedia objects, or PDFs. This new feature lets m-Power users store BLOB fields in the database and retrieve them via an m-Power application.

"This enhancement improves visibility on a number of levels," says Tyler Wassell, mrc's Director of Development. "m-Power developers now have easier ways to understand their applications and how they're being changed. Ultimately, I believe this enhancement provides some much-needed application visibility for m-Power developers and will improve application maintenance as a whole."
